Dave looks back at Sunday's race
One chase race down, and nine to go. Hopefully yesterday's race in New Hampshire wasn't a preview of what's to come. One word…..Boring!!
Without a doubt, that had to be one of the worst races of the year. Clint Bowyer sat on the pole. He took the lead immediately, and barring a few laps in the middle, really owned the field. Basically he stunk up the joint, as they say, on his way to his first career Cup win. Really, the only drama was which drivers would have problems, and Kurt Busch was the only one who had any kind of problem. He finished a couple of laps down with some engine trouble, but even he isn't out of the fray now.
Now here is a look at the updated standings. Still everyone is pretty much bunched together. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are now tied for the lead with 5210 points. Tony Stewart holds onto third place, now just ten points back. Clint Bowyer moves from twelfth to fourth place, just fifteen back, while Kyle Busch and Martin Truex, Junior round out the top six.
The next six looks this way. Matt Kenseth is just 54 points back, while Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin hold down the next two spots. Kevin Harvick overcame some early problems to move up to tenth, while Jeff Burton and Kurt Busch round out the top twelve. Busch is just 102 points back, so no one is in any trouble yet.
