MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Matt Kenseth refused to take the blame for an accident involving Dale Jarrett last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, despite some heated comments from Jarrett after the race.
Friday at Martinsville Speedway, Kenseth said he understood Jarrett's anger but has yet to talk to Jarrett this weekend.
"If I would have run into the back of him, I would have called him right away and talked to him about it, but I tried to pass him five or six times, and that time I had three or four feet underneath him and that was my spot, so I didn't feel I did anything wrong," Kenseth said. "I was in my spot, which was underneath him, and he came down into my lane and spun himself out, so I don't really feel like I was at fault in the incident, and I didn't see a big need to seek him out."
Jarrett was racing Kyle Petty when Kenseth tried to pass Jarrett, but the two made contact, and Jarrett backed into the wall. He finished 42nd and fell out of the top 35 in owner points.
Afterward, Jarrett said he would have a "discussion" with Kenseth.
"Everybody has this great vision that Matt Kenseth is this nice guy on the race track - he is a nice guy away from the track - but he's a rough driver on the race track when he doesn't have to be," Jarrett said last week.
